ABOUT

The Story Behind Salem Aero Club

Salem Aero Club was founded in Salem, NJ in 1965 by a few visionary pilots with a passion for flying and a desire to share the experience of flight with others using a single club-owned plane. As membership grew, the original plane was sold and ultimately two aircraft were purchased, a Cessna 150 and a Cessna 182. The Cessna 150 was primarily for training, building time, and the simple enjoyment of flying, while the Cessna 182 with long range fuel tanks provided cross-country capability for up to four occupants. Although incorporated in New Jersey, the planes are now based near the center of membership demographics, which for several years has been the Wilmington Airport (KILG). This home base is convenient for residents of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Membership is open to anyone who has a shared love for flying and a willingness to assist in the success and ongoing growth of the Club. You will find our members to be mutually respectful, responsible, supportive of a shared ownership philosophy, and simply enjoyable to be with.
Our vision is to continue to grow the membership of the Club, renew the aircraft with technology updates, and ultimately add aircraft as membership and finances allow.
